Day one is focused on developing an awareness of what Positive Behaviour Support is. Its aim is to equip those who attend with an understanding of the basic elements of PBS, how it can be applied in practice settings and some of the basic skills required to deliver a PBS framework.
The second day is focused on developing the skills and knowledge covered on day one into a more service-specific model so that the participants can learn to develop and implement effective person-centred support within a PBS framework.
This course is for a wide variety of people who work in the health and social care or education sectors. It could include support staff, residential staff, teachers, nurses, social workers and/or parents and carers.
The course content is mapped to the Skills for Care PBS Competence Framework.
For many people requiring support, the application of the principles of PBS will lead to positive outcomes in terms of their behaviours and quality of life. It should be noted however, that for some, the additional application of specialist support (for example Functional Analysis or specific therapies such as CBT) may be required.
Nevertheless, this course aimed at the practical application of the principles of PBS together with a commitment to those principles by the commissioning organisaton will often lead to positive
outcomes for people using the services.
