Nick Butcher

As an experienced trainer and former nursing professional, Nick is a founder and Director of Sherwood Training. When working as a Learning Disability nurse, Nick saw first-hand how improving a person’s quality of life through Positive Behaviour Support reduced behaviours of concern. He remains committed to developing high quality, ethical training promoting the importance of dignified and respectful person-centred approaches.


Fun fact: Nick sings, plays guitar and has played with bands for many years.  He's currently attending and preforming at a regular local folk club and playing caixa in a samba band!

 

Andy Whysall

Andy is a founder and Director of Sherwood Training and is passionate about a rights-based approach and restraint reduction.  He has worked in schools, residential care and supported living with people aged 18 months to 97 years, primarily in the field of Autism and learning disabilities.  As well has having an NVQ 3 in health and social care, Andy is a certified PBS coach, certified Behaviour Assessor and has attended the last nine International PBS Conferences. He is the company’s day-to-day business manager and Lead Trainer offering specialist consultancy services.


Fun fact: "I have played on stage with Bryan Adams in front of 16000 at Sheffield arena and currently still hold 12 top 10 world records on the Burnout 2 computer game!"

 

Rachael Davies

As a former registered children’s home manager, Rachael is passionate about PBS across all age ranges and sectors. She has worked in both education and health and social care. Alongside a BSc Honours in Psychology degree, Rachael completed NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Supporting Children and Young People. Initially, Rachael began working with Sherwood as an associate trainer before becoming an accredited senior trainer. Now the Head of Operations, she balances her time between supporting trainers, onboarding new customers and delivering training.


Fun fact: "Like many people I have supported I love rollercoasters and have bungee jumped and skydived. One of the best things about being a support worker is taking people to theme parks and sharing adventures with them!"

 

Kirsty Briggs

As a respected leader in Adult Social Care services for people with learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Kirsty has over 15 years’ experience in the field.  She is a caring and compassionate person who believes in a person-centred PBS approach.  Alongside her level 5 qualification in Leadership in Health and Social Care, Kirsty also has a diploma in Autism from Birmingham University.

 

Fun Fact:  Before I began my career in Health and Social Care, I originally wanted to be a nurse.

 

Kirstie Reynolds

Kirstie has been a qualified mental health nurse since 2006. She has worked in the care profession since 2001 in dementia care, brain injury units, medium secure hospital and youth offending prisons. Kirstie is currently a clinical nurse lead specialising in crisis support at CAMHS (Children & Adolescent Mental Health Service). Teaching PBS is something Kirstie is extremely passionate about as she recognises the importance of valuing people we support as individuals and building positive relationships. She often says that the ethos of PBS is something she did in her career long before she knew what it was!

 

Fun fact: "I'm not a natural redhead and can play the violin!"

Fergus Brazel

Fergus is a qualified business professional having worked in the past as a business advisor with a special interest in social enterprise, cooperatives and credit unions.  He joined the team in 2011 and is our longest standing employee!

 

Fun fact: Fergus could be described as a hifi geek!  He has an impressive collection of music with a special interest in less commercial and experimental music.

Ben is an experienced support worker and has worked in many settings including learning disability and mental health residential care and supported living. He has also worked in forensic secure settings. Ben has a qualification in teaching Physical Intervention but strongly believes that good proactive and preventative strategies reduce the need for restrictive practices. Over the years Ben has seen many changes in the way we support people and is particularly passionate about developing hobbies and interests that help to engage people in a positive way.


Fun fact: "Everyone has a passion and mine is music! When I am not on shift or delivering training you can find me performing as a DJ into the early hours of the morning!"

 

Jonathon Carrier

Jonathon is an enthusiastic and engaging learning professional who truly cares about making a difference through the development of people and their skills.  Jonathon has extensive experience in both health and social care as well as being extremely dedicated to his role as a Senior Trainer.  He joined our team in 2021 and has been delivering training for us ever since.  He consistently receives some of the highest feedback from course delegates who always find his training informative and relative.

 

Fun Fact:  I am passionate about cars and like to spend my free time tinkering under the bonnet or customising one of my collection.

With over 12 years experience in health, social care and training Liam is a reliable, proactive and hard working member of the Sherwood Training team.  He initially began his career providing daily support services to adults with autism and/or learning disabilities.  A passionate supporter of PBS approaches, Liam has extensive experience in supporting teams to deliver positive and proactive support.  He began delivering training for us over 2 years ago and always receives excellent feedback from his course delegates.

Roger Webb

With several years of experience in a wide range of safety and security settings, Roger is one of our specialist senior trainers.  He was one of the first people in the UK to be trained by Sherwood Training to use a PBS based approach within a hospital security setting and he has been a pioneer in developing the RRN training Standards to fit within this sector.  Roger is a very good trainer with a great ability to challenge the attitudes and values of those he teaches to ensure a person-centred approach to supporting people in hospital situations.

 

Fun Fact: I enjoy a wide range of activities in my spare time, love being outdoors

whether it’s on land or water from mountaineering, walking and climbing to sailing, surfing and paddle boarding.

 

Associate Specialist Trainers and Consultants:

 

We work with a number of specialist consultants with professional experience in:

  • nursing consultancy (adult mental health, CAMHS, learning disabilities and personality disorder)
  • psychotherapy and counselling
  • critical incident analysis and debriefing
  • developing and commissioning specialist services

We are able to offer a responsive service and support to our customers in developing their expertise and services, as well as responding to crises should they occur.

Training Course Cancellation Policy:

 

If the customer cancels a booking the following charges will be applicable:

 

  • within 24 hours of the start of the course: 100% of the agreed fee + expenses (travel and accommodation)
  • between 7 days and 24 hours before the planned start of the course: 100% of the agreed fee
  • between 8 and 15 days before the planned start of the course: 50% of the agreed fee
  • between 16 and 30 days before the planned start of the course: 25% of the agreed fee
  • more than 30 days before the planned start of the course: NO CHARGE

Fees & Expenses

Standard daily rates:

  • £POA + expenses + VAT – RRN approved / BILD-ACT certified courses
  • £POA + expenses + VAT – Other courses
  • £POA + expenses + VAT – Other courses – 1/2 day

Why are they different? – The additional cost for RRN approved / BILD-ACT certified courses reflects the cost of maintaining certified status + additional quality assurance and administration requirements.

 

Train-the-Trainer (for delivery of RRN approved / BILD-ACT certified courses):

  • £1850 + VAT per person - Train-the-Trainer Course (5 Days)
  • £995 + VAT - Annual Associate Trainer License Fee
  • £450 + VAT - Annual Affiliate Organisation Registration Fee
  • £20 + VAT per course delivered - Auditing course records and issuing certificates
  • £5 + VAT - Workbooks (one required for each course participant - not required for refreshers)

Expenses:

  • Mileage – 50p + VAT/mile
  • Hotel & Subsistence – £100 + VAT pppn / £125 + VAT pppn within the M25 (Greater London) area – (Only required if the course is more than 50 miles from our base in Nottingham, NG15 0DT)
