Understanding Behaviour & De-escalation in Schools

Course Overview
This course is designed to develop staff confidence in understanding and responding to behaviour of concern in schools. Designed in line with the legislation and national guidance regarding managing the behaviour of pupils, you will learn about the factors that influence human behaviour and how to support students proactively. You will develop understanding of when and how to de-escalate difficult situations and consider the role of reflective practice to develop school policy and personal development. You will understand the law in relation to the use of force and your roles and responsibilities for recording and reporting. This course can be tailored to individual school needs to reflect the ethos, behaviour management policies and reporting systems.

FAQs
Please find our most frequently asked questions here – however, if you need any more information, please call our team on 01159 704 811
Can this course be delivered virtually?
Yes. While we strongly believe that face-to-face training is most effective, this course is modular so can be delivered virtually in sections. Whether delivered in person or virtually, there is an expectation that participants will actively engage in activities, group work exercises and discussions. Please speak to us as we will strive to deliver the training in the way that best suits your organisation.
Is this course an equivalent of Team Teach?
Yes. Team Teach is a behaviour management training organisation. Other organisations use acronyms such as Managing Actual or Potential Aggression (MAPA) or Preventing & Managing Violence and Aggression (PMVA) to describe behaviour management and physical intervention courses. We don’t use an acronym, but the theory and physical skills are an equivalent and equip staff with similar skills.
Will I learn positive handling and physical interventions?
No. The course is theory only and aims to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to prevent and de-escalate behaviours of concern. We offer a full course that does offer physical interventions training in line with national legislation and guidance. This can also be offered as a top-up session after staff have completed this course.
Is this course Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support is an evidenced-based framework for reducing behaviours of concern and improving quality of life. This course includes some key elements of Positive Behaviour Support, including the tiered approach to PBS in Schools. We do offer Positive Behaviour Support courses that focus purely on PBS and meet the PBS Competency Framework.
