RRN Level 2

Course Overview
This course is certified by Bild-ACT as compliant with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards. With a focus on understanding behaviours of concern and developing proactive strategies within a human rights-based framework, this course will equip you with the knowledge to support people with behaviours that put themselves or others at risk of harm. You will learn how to keep yourself and others safe using de-escalation strategies and a range of non-restrictive physical interventions (breakaway and self-protection skills). As a certified training course, the exact content will be tailored to your organisation’s needs based on a Training Needs Analysis.

Is this course the same as MAPA or PMVA?
Yes. Managing Actual or Potential Aggression (MAPA) and Preventing & Managing Violence and Aggression (PMVA) are acronyms used to describe behaviour management and physical intervention courses. We don’t use an acronym but the theory and physical skills are an equivalent and equip staff with similar skills. Physical skills taught will be based on a Training Needs Analysis.
Is the training certified by Bild-ACT against the RRN Training Standards?
Yes. We were one of the first organisations to gain Bild-ACT certification and were part of the CQC advisory group for the ‘Out of Sight Who Cares? Review of Restraint, Seclusion and Segregation.’ We were the first commercial training provider to have an Affiliate Organisation (Train the Trainer) model approved. Even before certification became mandatory we were voluntarily accredited under the Bild PITAS scheme and code of practice for teaching physical interventions. You can view our Bild-ACT certificate here. (Insert link)
Do you have to have mandatory certified training?
Our RRN approved, Bild-ACT certified courses meet the highest national training standards for teaching physical interventions. They are not mandatory in all settings and we can offer non-certified courses that meet the needs of sectors that require shorter courses or different content. We strive to always offer high quality training and will work with you to make sure that any course we deliver meets the needs of your organisation.
Can this course be delivered in one day?
If your organisation can evidence prior learning that meets Standard 2.5 of the RRN Training Standards, you can complete Level 2 as a one-day course. Prior learning may include courses such as Positive Behaviour Support, mental health, trauma-informed care and managing challenging behaviour training totalling 6 hours. Please talk to us as we will work with you to deliver the training in the way that best meets the needs of your organisation.
