Course Overview

Delivered by a registered mental health nurse, this course is designed to give a broad overview of dementia for all who work within a health or social care setting. You will learn about the different types of dementia, their causes and symptoms. By thinking about the journey of dementia, you will explore how people living with dementia may feel, act and respond. You will learn how to implement effective strategies for supporting someone with a dementia and develop understanding of the importance of effective communication, dementia friendly environments and promoting wellbeing and engagement.

  • Anyone who works in a health or social care setting who supports those living with dementia. Prerequisite: None

  • Define the different types of dementia, alongside their common symptoms.
  • Recognise the progressive nature of each dementia.
  • Understand the Think Feel Act analogy and the importance of relationships.
  • Apply the arousal model in relation to those living with a dementia.
  • Develop effective strategies for supporting people living with a dementia.

Yes. While we strongly believe that face to face training is most effective, this course is modular so can be delivered virtually in sections. Whether delivered in person or virtually, there is an expectation that participants will actively engage in activities, group work exercises and discussions. Please speak to us as we will strive to deliver the training in the way that best suits your organisation.
