Our Vision

Our vision is a world:

  • where needs are met without restrictions
  • where a good quality of life is for everyone
  • where people are empowered and enabled to achieve their full potential
  • in which we are all educated about positive behaviour support
  • where human rights are respected for all

2010

It was in March that Nick and Andy started discussing the potential for developing more outcome focused training solutions based on their combined experience working within Health and social care.  A strong focus was an ethical stance.  On 1st September 2010 Sherwood Training was established by Nick and Andy (in Nick’s spare room!).  Initially, Andy leads training delivery as Nick was still working full-time.

2011

At the end of January, we received the news that we had successfully gained Bild Accreditation for our training on the first attempt.  This was vital for us, as although the scheme was voluntary, it was important to us to have an external review of what we did.

2012

In 2012 Nick now comes on board full time working for Sherwood Training.  This was also the first time we (a colleague of ours) published our REFLECT model in Nursing Times.net

2014

This year saw Nick and Andy get their first employee, Fergus Brazel and their first freelance trainer, Ben Feetenby, starts to deliver training alongside Nick and Andy.  From a tiny acorn, our team begins to grow…

2015

During 2015, Andy attends the second Centre for the Advancement of Positive Behaviour Support (CAPBS) Coaches course and becomes a certified PBS coach.  This year we also assisted in developing the script for the 1st Bild PBS animation video.  Finally, for the first time we present a workshop at the international PBS conference in Liverpool.

2016

The start of another busy year sees us move our training into children’s services and we begin to develop our courses to suit both residential and alternative education provision.

2018

We were asked to join the National Thematic Review of Restraint, Seclusion and Segregation hosted by the CQC.  Several trips to London later saw us contributing to the national debate and drive for change.

2019

This year we were asked by the newly formed Bild-ACT to become 1 of 5 companies to “test” the proposed new RRN training standards.  We initially did this in September 2019 and then gained approval in December 2019.  Kirstie Reynolds joins our team, albeit freelance, with specialist knowledge as a CAMHS nurse.

2020

We now begin to deliver our training into other sectors such as NHS Trusts and mental health services.  Nick moves to a new role as our Director of Development, and a new life in southern France whilst Andy begins to take the daily lead role in the company.  Finally, we decide to publish all feedback from our training online using Coursecheck.com

2022

A fortunate chance meeting at the annual RRN conference ends up with us being the first Bild-ACT training company to provide RRN Approved training to those who work within private Security Teams in NHS Trust hospitals.  Liam Meakin joins the team as a senior trainer as we continue to grow.

2023

As the company and team continue to expand, a business restructure was required to ensure we could continue to hold true to our shared values and vision.  Kirstie Reynolds, RMN and Kirsty Briggs come on board as our line managers to join Fergus.  We were also fortunate to have our work with security teams recognised and gave a keynote speech at the annual NAHS conference.   This keynote presentation was selected as we had compelling data that supports our training models’ efficacy.

2024

The expansion now moves to other areas of training.  We were asked to lead Bild Community of Practice workshops relating to our quality and compliance systems.  We also developed a new RRN Approved open course, available to individual staff and/or agency workers, and successfully delivered this training.  With fortunate/chance timing, Jack Lucas-Knight joins our team of Senior Trainers.

2025

An exciting start to the new year sees us launch our new website and Jamie Woolley joins our team.  We are working on publishing our data relating to reducing the use of force and hope to achieve publication around September.  We are also working in greater collaboration with other professionals and specialists in the field to support and drive home our passion for high quality, ethical training.  Let’s see what 2026 brings!
