This ½-day course is aimed at providing support staff with an insight into epilepsy, its causes, the impact on the person, treatments and support strategies including responding to emergencies and the administration of buccal midazolam.
This course is delivered by a qualified learning disabilities nurse (RNLD) and includes observation and assessment of the giving of medication (spring water for practice purposes) by the buccal
route. Although in many cases rarely required, it aims to give confidence to support staff and carers in administering the medication in a genuine emergency.
