Challenging Behaviour – Developing Positive Behaviour Support Strategies

This 1-day course is aimed at enabling participants who support individuals who may present challenging behaviours to understand the factors that influence behaviour, look towards positive and proactive means of eliminating or minimising potentially harmful behaviours, recognise triggers and early indicators and respond using non-physical strategies and de-escalation skills.

Mental Health & Learning Disabilities

This course is aimed at providing support staff with an insight into mental health and mental health conditions, their causes and prevalence in people with learning disabilities. It focuses specifically on the support needs of people with both mental health and learning disabilities helping staff to recognise the signs and symptoms, understand how to access appropriate treatment services and how to promote good mental health for the people they support.

Autistic Spectrum Disorder: An Introduction

This 1-day course is aimed at providing support staff with an insight into the care and support people with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorders. Participants will gain an understanding of the history and diagnosis of Autism, how it affects the individual and their interactions with the environment and other people.

Learning Disability Sexuality and Relationships

A lively 1-day course examining the issues surrounding sexuality and relationships for people with learning disabilities.  In addition to exploring the issues, the course offers practical guidance to participants including reference to currently available guidelines and legislation.

Understanding Epilepsy and the Administration of Buccal Midazolam

This ½-day course is aimed at providing support staff with an insight into epilepsy, its causes, the impact on the person, treatments and support strategies including responding to emergencies and the administration of buccal midazolam.

This course is delivered by a qualified learning disabilities nurse (RNLD).
